Energy system of Ukraine has been successfully working as a part of European energy system

In 2021, Ukraine produced 70% of its electricity without a carbon footprint. At the same time, our generation has great export potential. Ukrainian electricity can already help Europe get rid of dependence on Russian gas in the near future and facilitate the completion of the transition to renewable energy sources.

Mykyta Vyshnevsky, Chief Market Operations Officer of NPC Ukrenergo, said about it at the online conference "Energy trading | Europe Ukraine", organized by the Ukrainian business community Energy Club.

Energy system of Ukraine has been successfully working as a part of European energy system for two months already. One of the central issues of our further integration into the European energy space is the restoration of full export of Ukrainian electricity to EU countries. This will happen gradually as Ukraine takes the necessary technical and organizational measures for this.

"In particular, resumption of electricity exports from Ukraine to European countries requires first of all some technical and organizational actions. We understand that this resumption will be gradual, depending on fulfilment by electricity producers in Ukraine of reconfiguration of equipment at nuclear, thermal and hydropower power plants as a first step. It is also necessary to ensure the functioning of FSKAR - the mechanism for financial settlement of unintentional deviations. Of course, reconfiguration at generation facilities they're already begun. And the necessary agreements for FSKAR have been concluded. The main and indisputable precondition for the start of exports is the strict adherence to market principles of allocation of cross-border capacity, in particular, regarding access to the cruise border capacity, and it must be provided on a market basis", emphasized Vyshnevsky.
