14.06 Energy Freedom by Energy Club

Topic: Selecting the optimal NEMO appointment model on the path of energy market coupling

By December 31, 2023, Ukraine is required to implement the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 of July 24, 2015, on establishing guidelines for the allocation of capacity and congestion management (CACM Regulation) into national legislation and designate one or more nominated electricity market operators (NEMO) to ensure the integration of "day-ahead" markets and intraday market based on the concept of a single market coupling.

This mentioned Regulation introduces competition among existing and new nominated electricity market operators within the framework of the Single European Market, providing new opportunities for market participants and benefiting end consumers.

There will be a round table discussion during the talk show Energy Freedom by Energy Club, where we will discuss the practical aspects, advantages, disadvantages, and risks associated with implementing a competitive or monopolistic NEMO appointment model in EU countries and Ukraine.

The round table is intended to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders, promote the development and integration of electricity markets in Ukraine and European countries.
Discussion topics:
  • Current status of CACM Regulation implementation in Ukraine
  • Trends in the development of electricity markets in EU countries
  • Practical aspects of introducing competition between NEMO operators
